Welcome!
Welcome to Girls Troop 893! We are a Boy Scouts of America Scouts BSA unit, serving girls in and around the western Fairfax County area. Our mission is to help area youth develop basic life skills, leadership experience, and self confidence, in a familiar indoor and outdoor environment.
We were among the first wave of Girls Troops to launch on February 1, 2019, and currently have 7 scouts, across a range of experience (some were Cub Scouts, three are also Venturing Scouts, and several are current or former members of the GSUSA Girl Scouts program).
Meetings
We currently meet on Tuesdays, from 7:00 – 8:30pm, at the Centreville United Methodist Church (6400 Old Centreville Road, Centreville, Virginia). We will usually meet in the Chapel or the Activity Field.
Program
Our overall program is built around lots of outdoor activities — camping, hiking, boating, etc., along with annual Summer Camp trips, merit badges, leadership training, and more. The troop is “Youth Led” — which means that the scouts identify specific meeting topics, then plan and lead the meetings. All while receiving general guidance, advice, and support from the adult leadership.
Membership
As with any Scouts BSA unit, membership is open to youth at least 11 years old, but not yet 18, or who are 10 years old and have either:
- Completed 5th grade, or
- Reached Arrow of Light rank in Cub Scouts
Though the BSA Venturing program has co-ed units, and Cub Scouts has co-ed Packs, but single-gender Dens, the Scouts BSA program is split into separate troops for boys and girls. This is the Girls Troop — click here to learn about Boys Troop 893.
