About Scouting

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.

Scouting serves area youth from Kindergarten until they reach age 21. Youth involved in BSA scouting programs develop life skills while having fun. Outdoor activities include field trips, camping, hiking, climbing, canoeing…just about anything you can imagine. Skills that they’ll learn include leadership, financial management, personal fitness and health, first aid, cooking, and more. All BSA scouting units also contribute back to the communities they serve — through trash pickup in parks, Scouting for Food collection for area food banks, and other service projects.

About CUMC

The Centreville United Methodist Church has sponsored a unit in the Boy Scouts of America since 1956. Our Cub Scout Pack, Boys and Girls Scouts BSA Troops, and Venturing Crew all serve youth throughout the Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax and surrounding areas.

Philip Weinheimer Memorial Scout Fund

In memory of Phil Weinheimer, an 893 Eagle Scout and all around amazing person. During his scouting career Phil made many friends, participated in a multitude of adventures, and truly lived the Troop 893 spirit of being “Simply the Best”.

Philip’s kind heart and scouting spirit live on through the formation of the new Philip Weinheimer Memorial Scout Fund; dedicated to furthering the access of community youth to the fun and life changing program of scouting and high adventure.

Cub Scouts

The Cub Scouts serve boys and girls from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Scouts are grouped into boys and girls dens by grade, meeting together one or more times a month. Once a month, the entire Pack (all Dens) meets for programs of learning, games, and special guests. Pack activities include the Pinewood Derby, Camping and Hiking, picnics, field trips, and all kinds of Adventures.

Scouts BSA

The Scouts BSA program has served American youth since 1910, and is open to boys and girls from 11 until they turn 18. CUMC sponsors separate Boys and Girls troops, each with its own meeting schedule and Scoutmaster, but sharing some resources and many adult leaders. Some major events throughout the year are held jointly by both troops, while others are run independently. Regular activities include hiking, camping, an annual family canoe trip, summer camp, and area Service Projects.
