Scoutmaster Minute: Great week. The hike on the Henry Hill Loop was beautiful, reminded me of walking in fields around my grandparents home. So nice to see everyone that attended, even if faces were hidden behind masks. The week was capped off with Bryan Hong's Eagle project, including seeing him enjoy his 1st pizza. Yes that's right...2 major milestones in one day. Hope your all keeping cool, I know a few of our Scouts are lifeguards at our neighborhood pools so they for sure get they chance. Troop News: 04 MAY 2020 – May the fourth be with you
Scoutmaster Minute: On Saturday I had the pleasure of watching the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds streak west they came just north of Centreville. It was an awesome site since we were able to watch them make an impressive bank turn out past Camp Snyder on return to DC. Hope you all had a chance to see them, if not here is a news clip from the National Mall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhZ64HLznuA. The weather is breaking so I hope you are all getting out to take some walks in the neighborhood and perhaps on nearby trails. It is tempting to zone out on [...]

Scoutmaster Minute: Our 33rd President, Harry S. Truman, made the following observation: In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves... self-discipline with all of them came first. This principal is essential for Scouts, especially given our shared loss of gathering for school, sports, scouting and work. if your "bored" then your not expanding your mind and testing the limits of your ability....never settle, push yourself to prove what I know you are capable of accomplishing with a little grit and determination. Set a goal for the week or month. Can [...]

Scoutmaster Minute: Working from home is not all its cracked up to be....at least not under these circumstances. Needless to say this is the hand we have been dealt, so I ask everyone to simply Do Your Best. I cannot offer certainty in what lies before us, but I have worked with my fellow leaders to offer some structure to keep us moving forward together. This will begin with an expectation for 100% attendance at Tuesday's virtual meeting...after all there is no where else to be. We will proceed with planning on some leadership training, but that might take a [...]

Scoutmaster Minute: Well I am more than certain that folks are feeling a little stir crazy...but there are options. In terms of our normal schedule of active, I think is safe to say that all face-2-face interactions will be suspended thru April 10, and very likely thru April 30. Here a few things Scouts can be doing with the free time they now have. I have also included one task below that is require of all Scouts. Great time to use those electronics on a hike to explore news trails where you can do part of Photography. The Blue Bells [...]

Scoutmaster Minute: Sobering times for sure, but that does not make us helpless. If we are Obedient and abide by the actions public health officials recommend for social distancing we can mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on our communities and save lives. That means we must not act in our own self interest but collectively for the benefit of our families, friends and neighbors. There will be no Troop meetings thru March 27, at which time leadership will adjust per the plans I outlined yesterday. We are evaluating options for holding some virtual meetings to support merit badges and other [...]

troop news march 1
Scoutmaster Minute: Yesterday morning I explored the Diamond Head Crater outside of Honolulu and made sure that Troop 893 was represented. One of the unique things I got to see on that hike was a helicopter extraction from the top of the crater (sadly someone took a bad fall), example of the Search & Rescue Merit Badge in action. During the week I also had the honor of visiting with Governor Ige and the leadership of INDOPACOM to discuss resilience and preparedness for the islands and our national security interests. This command post covers 52% of globe and multiple bad [...]
