Scoutmaster Minute: Planning, especially long term, is tough, especially in the era of SnapChat, Texting, Instagram etc...everything is now, now, now. While incremental, it has been great to see our Scouts continue to evolve and adapt the planning process in developing their long term plans for serving fellow Scouts during this term. Scoutmaster Minute: April showers spring rank advancements and new experiences. By all accounts Troop 893's new scout campout provided multiple learning opportunities of all types, including why we should always pack our rain gear no matter what. The floating flag pole was put to great use, the fish were biting, many enjoyed a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, the campfire program prepared by the Communications MB crew during which we retired several US flags that had fulfilled their duty. Scoutmaster Minute: The installation of the new Troop 893 leadership team is now official and we look forward to another exciting 6 months. We also has a great showing on Saturday for the cleanup around CUMC. Many dead branch's, pine needles, leaves, dirt and grit were swept, raked, cut, snipped and/or scooped up by members of the Troop 893 family. Nicely done. 1. Scoutmaster Minute: Leadership is transitional and constantly evolving. Today, the Troop's new leadership endured gusty winds and little rain while making great strides in setting a vision for the next six months. This included the first official use of the CUMC Activity Field flag pole planned and installed by Benjamin Powers for his Eagle project. Awesome. The Scouts benefitted from some excellent peer leadership provided by Hiroki Cook, Jacob Major, Matthew Sezen, Jonathan Lee, Henry Jobe and Benjamin Powers. Scoutmaster Minute: Endure, persevere, excel and overcome are all thoughts that come to mind after this weekend. A hearty combination of Scouters took on mother nature in the Elizabeth Furnace area of George Washington National Forest this weekend. Everyone hiked at least 7 miles or more, gaining at least 1200ft in elevation, and some climbed with ropes while others did rock scrambles. All in all it was a great weekend with good spirits and warm fires...which was especially nice given the overnight low hit 25F.
