Scoutmaster Minute: Last weekend was a busy time for some new Troop 893 Eagle Scouts, Austin Wood and John Stephen Powers both had their Eagle Court of Honor. Congratulations to both. Others have been busy “decking the halls”, I love seeing all the lights go up on the houses in the neighborhood as we approach Christmas and other holidays. I wrestled with ours this weekend and I am happy to report that no ladders or Scoutmasters fell. It was also a great weekend for a stroll in the woods. Multiple Scouts gathered to test their orienteering skills using a simple map and compass to navigate a 3 mile course at Hemlock Overlook Regional Park. Experience tells me that likely included a few extra steps. Such an outing also reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from a dear old friend.

I always get to where I’m going by walking away from where I have been.

MEETINGS
Remember that the Patrol assigned to run a meeting also has clean up duty….meaning your Patrol should be the last to leave with approval of SPL and Scoutmaster.
1. This Week Dec 7: Minute-to-win-it Games (Landsharks) in Fellowship Hall
Uniform Class B (Class A when seeking advancement)
The Landsharks have developed a series of fun interactive patrol competition games…some may even include Oreos. We may have some AOL scouts visit this week so be on your best behavior as usual.
Reminder, this meeting will be in the CUMC Fellowship Hall…meaning indoors, so come prepared with your own mask.
2. Next Week Dec 14: PLC Mtg (All Scouts in Leadership Positions)
Uniform Class A
Patrol Leaders and others in position of responsibility should arrive with one or more meeting plan/activity using the attached template. Since we will likely have New Scouts joining us over the next several weeks, a few of the meetings should be oriented with their participation in mind. The link below can help with meeting ideas that can make for a combination of scout skills and fun. http://www.programresources.org/activities/
### All patrol should be thinking about tuning up their Klondike sleds and perhaps using some time during the winter break to fix them and make a patrol flag.

3. Service Hours: DEC 18 – Holiday Food Basket Distribution Traffic Control @ CUMC

Mr. Adere, our 893/CUMC Chartering Organization Representative, coordinates with CUMC for other service opportunities for scouts, and has asked for volunteers to help with traffic control to ensure that the Holiday Food Basket distribution runs smoothly. Your time and efforts are appreciated even if you cannot commit to the entire time listed.
