Scoutmaster Minute: Over the weekend we collaborated with Pack 2011 on Scouting for Food. The response from the community was reasonable given limited notice and communication. Most importantly, our Scouts worked great as a team sorting and crating up the food items collected. Much appreciation to all the efforts of Michael Adere for organizing this annual event, and shout out to the Scouts that hustled on the morning shift at  and those that helped upload several thousand pounds of food into the food pantry at WFCM. Supporting our community and upholding our oath….Basic Scout Stuff.

1.  This Week OCT  27: Murder Mystery (Phoenix) @ Activity Field
Uniform – Class B
The Phoenix will resume their Halloween trandition of running a murder mystery activity.
ATTENTION: We are seeking Scouts worthy of an important Mission. That means setting the foundation for a good plan to make sure the stations we run for AOL Scouts are fun. It also means that Patrols need to start meal planning ASAP, keeping in mind that Saturday dinner will be scored based on effort, taste and creativity. Patrols will have 3 options for cooking their dinner:
A. Dutch Oven – very forgiving cooking method. Most recipes can be prepped ahead or measured out into a ziplock for easy assembly on a campout. This recipe book from another Scout Troop is full of tips and some pretty great sounding recipes that I am certain will make a Scout smile.
B. Box Oven – this certainly hits the mark on creativity, but does require some critical prep and planning to work correctly. I can tell you from experience that I have made some great meals in one of these as a Scout…even a cake.
C. Open Fire – Both of the above require some form of fire. There are many options for cooking directly on fire…which was the only choice I had back in the day, we did not have the gear you have. Scoutmaster tip – put liquid soap on the bottom of pots before putting over fire…clean up is easy peasy
If you need grubmaster credit for rank or merit badges this is a good opportunity to step up since the next campout is likely a ways out.
Bring $15 for the grubmaster.
2.  Next Week NOV 3: Mission Impossible Shakedown (ALL) @ Activity Field
Uniform – Class B
All Patrols will be meeting to refine MI station plans for AOL Scouts. They will also complete meal plans and related organizational needs to ensure this annual event runs efficiently. We are seeking Adult support to run the evening stations we are planning for our Scouts…this does not require camping, but we would love to have you stay. Additional info will be forthcoming.
3. CAMPOUT NOV 6-8 Mission Impossible @ Izaak Walton League
Uniform – Class A to Travel, Class B on-site
Nova Corp – Counts toward 2nd Class (req 1a) or !st Class (1a)
We all look forward to this campout every year for its great tradition of skill challenges and overall fun. It is also when we have an opportunity to meet prospective AOL Scouts considering what Troop they want to join in 2021. Wilderness Survival will be the theme…so be prepared.
