Scoutmaster Minute

2020 is like 2019 since our first meeting of the new year was cancelled again. The few flakes of snow that fell seemed to be too much for the NoVa area to handle. As a kid, I had one of the biggest newspaper delivery routes in town. The elementary school was at the end of my street, so if the street was not plowed by the time I finished, I knew it was safe to crawl back into bed. Typically the only tracks on my street those mornings were from the guy who brought the papers. If he didn’t show up, then I knew it was really bad. That being said I always enjoyed the serenity of freshly fallen snow and of course the sense of exploration. My footsteps were the only ones, meaning I had to “break the trail”. I remind our Scouts to challenge themselves in 2020, break your own trail, do thing that push your boundary’s and challenge your intellect…you are the only thing holding you back from reaching Eagle and other success.

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.

There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.

1. This Week Jan 14: Klondike Shakedown & Sled Prep (All Patrols)
Uniform Class A

Scouts should be prepared to confirm Klondike attendance so we can complete registration, currently only 5 of you have responded to the RSVP request @ Sign Up Genius

Since we had to cancel last weeks meeting, Patrol Leaders ideally used the “found time” to start planning by opening the attached file.
Ideally you have all taken a look at this so you can be prepared to contribute…this a team effort….BEFORE TUESDAY!.

Patrols will finalize plans for the upcoming Klondike Derby and the Troop station. The theme is Ice Zombies and will include multiple challenge stations to test Scout skills, including a chili cook off.

This is a perfect time for each Patrol to expand their meal planning creativity, especially since you all have brand new camp stoves (see photo). This will include the first chance to win the coveted T893 Golden Spoon.

Bring $15 for the grubmaster.

2. Klondike Derby Jan 17-19 @ Camp Snyder
