Scoutmaster Minute: On Saturday I had the pleasure of watching the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds streak west they came just north of Centreville. It was an awesome site since we were able to watch them make an impressive bank turn out past Camp Snyder on return to DC. Hope you all had a chance to see them, if not here is a news clip from the National Mall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhZ64HLznuA. The weather is breaking so I hope you are all getting out to take some walks in the neighborhood and perhaps on nearby trails. It is tempting to zone out on Tik Tok, Xbox and Netflix in the absence of substantive academic and athletic programs. I encourage you all to simply take 1 hr per week to focus on something new. This could be rank advancements, merit badges, improving how long you can juggle a soccer ball or the number of sit ups you can do, explore a new trail or read a book. The point is to keep moving, do not stand still. Find ways to continue challenging your mind and body.
Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. ― George Bernard Shaw
MEETINGS
- This Week May 5: Collections (Titans); Uniform: Class A
A. Scouts are advised to review the Collections MB requirements (yes we know some of you have completed). This is a fun opportunity to share with the Troop some of great stuff you have been collecting all your life or perhaps since the COVID lockdown started. Members of the Titans will lead the discussion and demonstrate one or more collections.
B. Patrols are reminded to continue collaboration on their May 12 Scout Skills meeting plans. Each patrol member should have a contributing part.
- Eagles – Fire Building
- Pandas – First Aid
- Phoenix – Knots & Lashing
- Titans – Blade Safety
- Land Sharks – Water Purification/Sanitation
- Next Week May 12: Scout Skills: Short Videos (ALL); Uniform: Class A
Each patrol will present their short Scout Skills video.
Will may seek a Rotten Tomato rating for each one for a yet to be determined reward/prize.
- Next Next Week May 19: Skits or MB (ALL); Uniform: Class A
The PLC discussed some simple skits that could be prepared by Patrols. Alternatively they also discussed working through some merit badges as a Troop…potentially even one or two breakout rooms for differing interests.
- After That May 26:PLC (ALL) ;Uniform: Class A
All in Leadership position will gather again to assess prior weeks meetings and consider next few weeks of activity.
At this point in May (post-Memorial Day) we should have new outlook on summer and when/if we will be able to have “normal” meetings.
