Scoutmaster Minute: Yesterday morning I explored the Diamond Head Crater outside of Honolulu and made sure that Troop 893 was represented. One of the unique things I got to see on that hike was a helicopter extraction from the top of the crater (sadly someone took a bad fall), example of the Search & Rescue Merit Badge in action. During the week I also had the honor of visiting with Governor Ige and the leadership of INDOPACOM to discuss resilience and preparedness for the islands and our national security interests. This command post covers 52% of globe and multiple bad actors, so as you can imagine the principle “Be Prepared” is a daily mission. Always humbling to see what our service members do daily to secure our liberty and freedom.

There were also many discussions related to the evolving coronavirus situation. With that in mind, I will stress one of the tenets from the Law…A Scout is CLEAN. Wash hands frequently, be mindful to avoid touching your face, and please don’t waste your money on masks…they are not effective. We will continue our meetings until such time that social distancing is mandated. The key for all families is to not panic and practice good hygiene, which includes staying home if your feeling under the weather.

Preparedness is the key to success and victory
