Scoutmaster Minute
This week was the troop’s first time at summer camp, a week of many Firsts. The first time Goshen Scout Reservation has hosted girls as troops and as members of cub scout packs. Troop 893 was the first Girl Troop at Olmsted perform a flag ceremony with some help from other female staffers, and performed well after taking time out of free time to practice using three flag poles raising three of the flags representing our Council. In 1 week, the 4 girls completed 19 merit badges (10 different) and were one of 4 different troops to have earned the “Olmsted Pride” award for activities around camp. We left our mark, literally, by creating a troop plaque left behind to hang in a camp building. Both troops worked together at times during the week and it was great to see. I couldn’t be prouder.
A week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the meeting room.– Lord Baden-Powell
I would like to add a special thanks to the adults who were able to support both troops this week at camp, it was truly a group effort! A group the size of ours when combined takes many hands.

This is great opportunity and those with experience indicate Great Falls/Mather Gorge is a blast. Buzzard Rock was big hit will the Boys Troop group that climbed during their March campout.

Upcoming Service Opportunities
Providing service is a key part of Scouting, to do our daily good turn. Helping others often in turn helps ourselves with new experiences and opportunities for growth. This is built into requirements for most ranks. I’m adding a new section to the weekly notes to list any upcoming service opportunities that may help the Community, and progress in your trail to Eagle.
