Scoutmaster Minute: I hope you all had time over spring break to recharge their batteries and enjoy time with family and friends.
Since today is Easter, it is the one day when its okay to have all your eggs in one basket.

1. This Week Apr 23: New Scout Campout Shakedown & Station Review (ALL)

Uniform – Class A
 
All scouts attending the New Scout Campout on April 26-28 should bring $15 for their grubmaster. 
The Nova Corp members will be added into regular patrols and one or more may act as grubmaster, all will cook and learn duty roster positions.
Shakedown planning will take place along with review of campout stations slected by each patrol.
2. New Scout Campout April 26-28
Uniform –  Class A

This outing is excellent opportunity for our new scouts to challenge their skills and learn some new techniques from current scouts that will demonstrate how to apply the EDGE method in multiple stations.
We will be camping Teets’ Woods, 2321 Cedar Grove Rd, Winchester, VA. Scouts in the Communications merit badge class have prepared a campfire program for Saturday evening.
All those attending must bring a signed copy of the attached permission slip to the Troop Assembly at CUMC on April 26 @ 6pm. Scouts will not be making diner Friday evening, so please be sure to eat something prior to departure.
Parents of attending Scouts we may need one or more of you that are no planning to camp to provide transportation, so please do not leave until we are sure all scouts “have a seat”.
Troop trailer requires transport for this outing to be functional…please advise ASAP.

3. Next Week APR 30 – PLC Meeting
Uniform: Class A
All Scouts holding a Position of Responsibility should plan to attend this meeting.
### Prior to the PLC, each Scout is encouraged to provide meeting ideas to their Patrol Leader. One resource to consider is http://www.programresources.org/activities/

4. Eagle Projects & Service Hours
Uniform –  Class B
  1. Jacob Major is seeking support from Scouts (14+yrs) and other in the community to do some painting and install related artwork @ Lanier Middle School. This will be a 2 day operation, April 27, 10am-5pm and April 28, 10am-until done., see attached flyer.   2. Cameron Sutton is seeking volunteers to support his project at Sully Plantation on May 4th from 8:30-2. Volunteers will be clearing two trails and putting down a mulch surface at the Sully Historic Site.  They will also install two bat houses. 5. Summer Camp Swim Test – May 5 @ Cub Run Rec Center
ALL SUMMER CAMP PARTICIPANTS (ADULT & YOUTH) ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND
We have booked several lanes to facilitate testing required for summer camp. To make this as efficient as possible please go to troop893.com/swim-test  and select time slot ASAP.

6. Annual Troop 893 Canoe Trip – May 24-26 (plan ahead)
WHAT:  The Troop’s biggest, most fun-filled event, the 46th Annual Memorial Day Family Canoe Trip, May 24-26, 2019.

WHERE:  South fork of the Shenandoah River, near Bentonville, Virginia with the Downriver Canoe Company.

WHO:  All Troop 893 registered Scouts, former Troop members, all Venturing Crew 893 registered Venturers, their families, and friends.  This is a family event, but because it is also a Scout event, ALCOHOL IS NOT ALLOWED.

Transportation, camping, grubmaster duties, cooking, cleanup, and canoeing or kayaking are done by families (or arranged by families), not by the Troop or by patrols.

WHEN:  Set up camp before nightfall Friday, eat, sleep, canoe, and be home on Sunday evening.  Families may informally meet in the parking lot of CUMC at 5:30 Friday evening (or any other target time you arrange) if you need to go with others.
