Scoutmaster Minute: Endure, persevere, excel and overcome are all thoughts that come to mind after this weekend. A hearty combination of Scouters took on mother nature in the Elizabeth Furnace area of George Washington National Forest this weekend.
Everyone hiked at least 7 miles or more, gaining at least 1200ft in elevation, and some climbed with ropes while others did rock scrambles. All in all it was a great weekend with good spirits and warm fires…which was especially nice given the overnight low hit 25F. By and large all were well fed, and I suspect some Scouts are due for some new boots and reconsideration of how they pack for the elements…layers-layers-layers.
There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.
