Scoutmaster Minute: Its clear after the Court of Honor a few weeks ago that our Scouts have been working hard to advance and discover new things. As the weather turns and days grow shorter, now it the time to set and stick to the goals you have set for yourselves. Keep in mind that if it was easy, it would not be called work. The path to Eagle require work and dedication to your goals. It can be done, just trust in yourself to get there.

1.  This Week Oct 16 – Parent Meeting & Game Design MB (LandSharks)

Uniform – Class A

 

1.  At least one parent from each registered scout family must attend this meeting with all proper paperwork and payments.  A separate email with necessary forms & details has been sent by Committee Chair, Paul Taylor. If you have not received please advise as this is essential for rechartering.
2. The LandSharks Patrol will again be challenging Scouts creative abilities by playing off some of the requirements in the Game Design merit badge.

2.  Outing Oct 19-21: Sully District Camporee @ Camp Snyder 

This year’s camporee and theme is the “MacGyver School of Scouting” which will be all about resourcefulness and improvisation.  The MacGyver School of Scouting is focused on developing the Art of Improvisation in Scouting students. We seek to find simple yet elegant solutions for problems using existing resources and develop resourcefulness and resilience in our participants.” Our favorite tool is the Swiss Army knife. Attending Scouts will have the chance to participate in MacGyver First Aid, Slingshots, Knot Races, Egg Drops, Construction, and more fun activities (see attached).
    1. All Scouts attending should bring $10 for the grubmaster and if unable to be at the meeting advise Patrol Leader of your plans to participate so the Patrol can plan accordingly.
    2. All Scouts must bring a completed permission slip to the Troop assemble on Friday evening at CUMC
We still need an adult to take the Troop trailer to/from the event, please advise of availability ASAP.

3. Next Week Oct 23 – Mystery Theater Workshop (Pheonix)

The spirits of the season will become the source of mystery for Scout/Patrols to apply their collective knowledge and team work to find answers. These skills will become very useful during the upcoming Mission Impossible.
4. Scouting For Food Nov 3 & 10
Uniform – Class A
Patrols from Troop 893 will be placing bags in area neighborhoods on Saturday morning, November 3. Scouts will need adults to helps transport and distribute bags. The following Saturday, Nov 10 we will return to the same neighborhoods and collect the food people have placed outside AND knock on doors if nothing is present. Our participation provides an tremendous community service to the families supported by Western Fairfax Christian Ministries (WFCM). A Scout is helpful.
5. Eagle Project – Artur Dowd
Uniform – Class B
Make a Needy Ukrainian Child’s Christmas!  My name is Artur Dowd, and I am working on my Eagle Project. I am working with the non-profit United Help Ukraine,  collecting new toys and new/gently used clothing for Ukrainian children ages 2-14. Donations will be collected from October 8th until November 1st and shipped to Ukraine in time for Christmas.  Suggested clothing items are warm winter jackets, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, and boots. Suggested toys are Barbie dolls, Lego sets, toy cars, soccer balls, Beyblades, Mega Blocks, Play-Doh, and Super Heroes. Due to high shipping costs, please consider the weight of the items donated. Thank you for your support!
Artur is seeking help from fellow Scouts on Sunday, November 4 @ 10:30am to sort and box collected items for shipping.
