Scoutmaster Minute: Well fall is here and winter is knocking on the door. It was 28 degrees when I woke up Saturday…enough for the Scouts to earn the Polar Bear patch for camping when it goes below freezing. The sun came out and it was a wonderfully brisk day as we welcomed over 20 Arrow of Light Scouts to visit our Troop with the prospect of joining us in the spring. They all seemed to enjoy the stations set up by our Scouts to share skills, including archery, cooking, and the axe yard.
NOTE: There was a safety incident in which one of our Scouts was seriously injured. The actions of multiple Scouts before and after the incident are being reviewed. At minimum there will be a mandatory safety meeting for all Scouts scheduled very soon.
In the afternoon our Scouts prepared their dinner, including some interesting deserts that were subject to a blind taste test. This was the first stage of the evening Mission Impossible program developed by CJ Staton, Kathy Taylor helped secure the archery range, and Shawn Morrow & Dave Schuetz ran the radio control center. As usual, Dave Treat provided the adults with an exceptional meal plan…no one went hungry. Much appreciation to all the adult support we received this weekend…that’s what helps make Troop 893 – Simply the Best. As the final item of the evening, all members of the Nova Corp were moved into full patrols.
Knowing what’s right doesn’t mean much unless you do what’s right.– Theodore Roosevelt
IMPORTANT ACTION ITEMS
Scouting For Food – Most of the patrols made their rounds this afternoon to put out notices to various neighborhoods. We need all hands on deck this Saturday to head back to those areas and collect the food provided for this excellent program. Additional details to follow.
MEETINGS
Remember that the Patrol assigned to run a meeting also has clean up duty….meaning your Patrol should be the last to leave with approval of SPL and Scoutmaster.
