Scoutmaster Minute: What a Boo-tiful weekend, hope all were able to enjoy some tricks or treats today. The Scouts will continue to focus this week on finalizing plans for Mission Impossible and look towards how we will support the community through Scouting for Food. There are a few key things in the news today…signup and 10 essentials. Please keep reading.

IMPORTANT ACTION ITEMS
A. Mission Impossible – Please indicate intent to participate in the following activities.
  • Scouts and Leaders Troop 893 Annual Mission Impossible Campout, Izaak Walton League, Centreville – November 5-7.  This campout is a recruiting event for local Arrow of Light scouts as well as a fun  “Mission Impossible” challenge for the 893 patrolls to compete.  Scouts and Leaders should sign up to let the planners know you will be attending!  Sign Up (to camp and/or participate): https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4BA5AE292-mission

MEETINGS
Remember that the Patrol assigned to run a meeting also has clean up duty….meaning your Patrol should be the last to leave with approval of SPL and Scoutmaster.
1. This Week Nov 2: Mission Impossible Shakedown (All Patrols)
Uniform Class B (Class A when seeking advancement)


ALL SCOUTS PLANNING TO ATTEND MISSION IMPOSSIBLE NEED TO “REGISTER” INTENT ASAP SO WE CAN ORGANIZE PATROLS FOR AOL STATIONS AND EVENING COMPETITION. NOVA CORP WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO PATROLS.

Final review of station plans and development of Patrol meal plans. This includes how the patrol will use the Secret ingredient and how they will compete in the Dutch oven bake off. All patrols will also use this time to finalize plans for the Friday event “893’s Got Talent” .

All Scouts should arrive at the meeting with their 10 Essentials (see handbook p. 238-239). The Patrol will the most prepared Scouts will be recognized and gain bonus points for Mission Impossible.

A. AOL Stations – Each Patrol should finalize their station plan and share details of how the EDGE method will be applied based on the attached station guidance. Mission Impossible Stations as determined at Leadership Training on October 3.

  • First Aid – Pandas
  • Cooking – Phoenix
  • Axe Yard – Land Sharks
  • Knots – Titans
  • Fire – Eagles

B. Meal Planning –  The Saturday dinner, including dessert with “Secret Ingredient”, will be part of Mission Impossible competition. Patrols will have plenty of time to cook dinner so time to get creative…encourage all to consider dutch oven or other meals. Should not see any hot dog or burgers and definitely no ramen.

  • Each Scout should bring $15 for grubmaster.
  • Each Patrol  meal plan must be reviewed and approved by SPL and Scoutmaster (use attached Grubmaster plan).

C. Skit – Each patrol should be thinking about a skit to share Friday evening after camp is setup

2. This Week Nov 5-7: Mission Impossible Campot @Izaak Walton League
Uniform Class A

This campout is one of the best all year with lots of pride in showing off the Troop to AOL scouts and which is followed by the evening patrol competition. Lots of fun is planned and we look forward to seeing everyone.

  • All Scouts should be at CUMC no later than 6pm (eat diner first)
  • Adults should be prepared to transport
  • Bring signed permission slip and give to SPL, no exceptions

3. Scouting For Food (Service Hours)

  • Nov 7 – Each Patrol has been assigned to a neighborhood, details will be reviewed Tuesday.
  • Nov 13 – Collection of food items by Patrols and sort at collection site.
