Scoutmaster Moment
Congratulations to the 893 Scouts graduating this past week from Centreville HS and Westfields HS! The graduation color guard at Centreville HS was made up of Scouts from 893 Troops and Crew, well done Scouts! It is great to hear of Scouts representing Scouting and 893 in the community.

Troop Mask Guidance
Guidance for mask use by state and federal officials is shifting, however as a Troop we still follow the guidance of our Charter Organization (CUMC) until they specify a change.  Please continue to wear a mask at all troop events until notified otherwise.

TROOP MEETING/ACTIVITY OUTLOOK
This Week  – 6/15 – Troop Meeting 
Uniform: Field Uniform (Class A)
Location: Online – meeting invite to be sent out Tuesday
This week’s meeting will be online and focused on summer camp logistics, prep and tips.
We have a mandatory video we need to watch that will cover some of the protocols we will follow at camp in the coming week. We will also review some of the gear tips below and discuss some other logistics matters. Mr. Barnett will also be sending information related to health monitoring expectations for the week prior to leaving for camp.
Summer Camp Departure & Prep
  • All campers should arrive by 7am at the VDOT lot behind CUMC on Sunday June 20, wearing Class A (including socks)
  • Review the attached Scout Summary camper schedule document (recommend that you clip out your schedule for reference), check against the attached pre-requisites info to be sure any merit badge pre-work is completed before camp to have the badge completed at camp. Be Prepared.
  • Recommend that Scouts bring copy of the merit badge worksheets for each badge selected and at least one pencil
  • Review the attached Summer Camp Gear for tips on gear selection and packing and the 893 Summer Camp Equipment List.

Upcoming Activities per PLC
Patrols should plan ahead so meetings can be online (virtual) if necessary.  Alternatively, activities could be planned as a weekend outing outside.
Patrols Leaders are reminded that plans for meetings should be submitted to the SPL and Scoutmaster 2 weeks in advance (at minimum). Meeting plans should have details for what will happen.  Information for Troop News inclusion should also be provided (items Scouts should bring to the meeting, and short statement of what the meeting will be about).
