Scoutmaster Minute: For the record…the Troop 893 family is Simply the Best. I very much enjoyed seeing all the Scouts participating in the Merit Badge University the past few weeks. Equally important is the gratifude for the leaders that share their time and knowledge to run the classes and sit on several Boards of Review. Hard works is rewarded with sucess and many of you either completed or made significant progress on multiple merit badges. Well done.

I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life
as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.

MEETINGS

  1. This Week – Tuesday 02 MAR 2021: Journey to Eagle (Zoom)

Uniform – Class A

SPL Mikey Hannett and his team decided that it would be timely for many Scouts to review the key milestones for reaching Eagle. Mr. Wood has been an excellent resource for Scouts in the Troop that are at the Life rank and seeking guidance on completing Eagle. That said there are several things all Scouts need to make this journey successful. Recent Eagle Scouts will share insights on their journey and key tips to help you stay organized and focused on the task before you.

  1. Troop Elections – Tuesday MAR 9 @ Activity Field

Uniform – Class A

It is time again to start the transition to the next Scout Leadership Team. All Scouts should be thinking about how they can provide service to the Troop as a leader to give back and help those that have helped them advance.

Elections are held Troop wide for SPL and within a Patrol for Patrol Leader. All other positions require a Scout to add their name to the signup sheet for consideration by the new SPL and Scoutmaster.

Currently only Charlie Schmidt has expressed his interest in the position of Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), if other scouts are interested they should contact me ASAP.

Positions of Responsibility are especially critical for Scouts seeking to advance to Star, Life and Eagle, but many are open to all Scouts. There are many options, so please review the attached document if you’re not familiar with a position or would like to know more. You could also talk to the Scout current in the position. Yes talk, primitive I know, but highly effective when exercised properly.

In all cases you must be present to be considered. If for some reason you are unable to attend please let me know ASAP.

ALL THOSE SELECTED FOR A POSITION WILL BE EXPECTED TO ATTEND LEADERSHIP TRAINING ON SUNDAY, MARCH 21 (backup date is April 11)

  1. Next Next Week – Tuesday 16 MAR 2021: New Scouts Begin, OA Call Out Ceremony @ Activity Field

Uniform – Class A

Tonight is the night we welcome the next Nova Corp Patrol. We will also be transitioning the current Nova Corp members into regular patrols. This evening will close with an Order of Arrow “Call Out” Ceremony for Scouts that have been elected to join OA in the past year.

  1. Troop Leadership Training – Sunday 21 MAR 2021@ Activity Field

Uniform – Class A

Important: All scouts in new leadership positions are expected to attend troop leadership training on Sunday, 21 March from 8:30AM to approximately 2:00PM.

We will do team building exercises (games!) and conduct refreshers on troop organization, position responsibilities, basic leadership skills, and begin planning troop activities for the next 6 months.

We will also need adult assistance for breakfast, snacks, and lunch. More to follow.
