Troop 893 Permission Slip 2020 Mission Impossible Scoutmaster Minute: Welcome to November, its opening has been pretty blustery, but I think we are looking good for Mission Impossible this weekend. This week also happens to make a direct connection to the Scout Oath…Duty to Country. While none of out Scouts are able to vote, this is certainly an interesting season in which to observe the wheels of our beloved republic grind out a decision. The democratic process can be messy and ugly, but is certainly beats the alternatives that would forgo the freedoms we unfortunately to often take for granted. Scouts please remind and encourage your folks to exercise the freedom of choice we have been granted and get them out to vote. You may also want to think about elements of the Citizenship merit badges if you have not already completed them.
November’s sky is chill and drear,
November’s leaf is red and sear.

All Patrols will be meeting to refine MI station plans for AOL Scouts and their own meal plans
Bring $15 for the grubmaster.

Here are a few reminders to help you this year.
  • Dinner is scored based on taste, presentation, and quality of meal. Dinner must be cooked without using a stove (troop stove, camping stove, etc). If using a dutch oven, we suggest you bring one if you are able or confirm availability with the ASPL Quartermaster.
  • Make you have your 10 essentials.
  • Bring anything you think you might want if you were in a survival situation. It might just come in handy.
  • Remember to bring your patrol spirit with you!
Patrols have 3 options for cooking dinner:
A. Dutch Oven – very forgiving cooking method. Most recipes can be prepped ahead or measured out into a ziplock for easy assembly on a campout. This recipe book from another Scout Troop is full of tips and some pretty great sounding recipes that I am certain will make a Scout smile.
B. Box Oven – this certainly hits the mark on creativity, but does require some critical prep and planning to work correctly. I can tell you from experience that I have made some great meals in one of these as a Scout…even a cake.
C. Open Fire – Both of the above require some form of fire. There are many options for cooking directly on fire…which was the only choice I had back in the day, we did not have the gear you have. Scoutmaster tip – put liquid soap on the bottom of pots before putting over fire…clean up is easy peasy Perhaps is you a camp tool the judges may look kindly upon your creativity.
