Scoutmaster Minute: Our 33rd President, Harry S. Truman, made the following observation: In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves… self-discipline with all of them came first. This principal is essential for Scouts, especially given our shared loss of gathering for school, sports, scouting and work. if your “bored” then your not expanding your mind and testing the limits of your ability….never settle, push yourself to prove what I know you are capable of accomplishing with a little grit and determination. Set a goal for the week or month. Can be a simple as improving the number of times you can juggle a ball from 5 to 20 to 45. Better yet set out your plan for reaching your next rank or completing a new merit badge. MEETING OUTLOOK Multiple Scouts have yet to complete the Cyber Chip requirements…this is not an optional task. Fulfill the requirements associated with your Grade level. Sign the oath for you grade level, as well as your parent and forward photo or scanned copy to my attention ASAP. Remember to include a parent or other adult leader when sending any communication. 1. This Week April 14: Virtual Patrol Leader Council (PLC) Uniform: Class A Join Zoom Meeting All Scouts in a position of responsibility are expected to attend this meeting unless advised otherwise. This is part of fulfilling your role and helping to lead the Troop. We will review options to sustain engagement at the Troop and Patrol level as we would normally, including plans for future outing. I request all Scouts think about ways we can continue to move forward together thru virtual meetings…time to get creative. Send your ideas to the SPL Andres Skare, me, and Mr. Pschigoda If you are not in a position of responsibility then I would encourage you to review your Scout Handbook, work on your skills so you can get items signed off. See 30-day challenges for rank advancement activities. SUMMER CAMP No later that April 15, we have the following items completed: 1. All Scout should review the attached Program Schedule and select 10 merit badges/activities. In terms of reading the schedule, each merit badge is offered 4 times in the week. When you are building your schedule, keep in mind that the morning, afternoon, and evening are separate schedules and the Mon / Tues is a different class from Wed / Thu. Please do not plan on archery for Mon – Fri, but instead pick archery for Mon / Tues and something else for Wed / Thur. The same rules apply to the afternoon and the evening merit badges. Then send list by e-mail 2. If you want the1/2 day White Water Rafting Trip on either Wednesday or Friday, include that as well on list (note there is an additional $75 charge) 3. If you want the White Water Merit Badge, complete attached waiver, a Scout either needs to have the kayaking merit badge or earn it at camp (there is a $95 additional charge) 4. Please complete the Summit Waiver form and scan it and send it back to me. 5. Final payment – This link, https://troop893.com/unit-resources/make-payment/ can be used for registration payments and summer camp.
