Meeting Outlook

1. This Week March 10: A-Frame Challenge (Land Sharks)
Uniform Class A
 
A. Patrol Activity – The Land Sharks will be running a skills competition that builds on prior lashing experience. Prior to the start their will be opportunity to refresh memory on the clove hitch and square lashing (hint: check your book). Then patrols will compete in a timed event to build an A-Frame chariot and race.
 
B. Pre-Shakedown – Scouts will take time to review the planned activities for the next campout and determine who will be grubmaster. This will be a backpacking style campout so light weight meals will be the focus. This will be good opportunity for those working on Cooking or Camping merit badge.
2. Next Week March 17:   Blindfolded Tent Challenge  (Phoenix)
Uniform Class A
 
A. Patrol Activity – The Phoenix patrol will be running a skills competition to see which patrol can work as a team to set up a tent blindfolded. We will also be receiving most if not all of the new Scouts joining Troop 893 this spring.

 
B. Shakedown – Scouts will finalize the planned activities for the campout and meal plans.
 
3. OUTING March 20-22: Marsden Tract Campout
Uniform Class A/B
 
The Scout have developed a plan that includes a hike to Georgetown Cupcake and/or fishing on the Potomac (MD day license required if 16 and up). That means good footware and dayback for the hike, including rain gear and $10-15 fora cupcake.
 
Big Dogz – Need confirmation of Adult support ASAP, including the hike (approx 11 mi each way)
 
4. Next Next Week March 24: Cyber Chip & Order of the Arrow Call Out (All)
Uniform Class A
 
1. Meeting will begin the CUMC Fellowship Hall for our annual Cyber Chip review, required for all Scouts.
2. We will transition to the Activity Field for the Order of the Arrow Call Out Ceremony.
 
5. TRAINING March 29: Leadership Training (All Scout in New Positions of Responsibility)
Uniform Class A
 
Important: All scouts in leadership positions are expected to attend troop leadership training on Sunday, 29 March from 8:30 AM to approximately 3:00 PM.
We will do team building exercises (games) and conduct refreshers on troop organization, position responsibilities, basic leadership skills, and planning troop activities for the next 6 months. IF all participants come PREPARED we can move thru the planning process efficiently and potentially close out ahead of schedule.
 
6. After That March 31: Spring Court of Honor (All Families)
Uniform Class A (Merit Badge or OA Sash)
  1. The Troop 893 Spring 2020 Court of Honor will be held at Centreville United Methodist Church in the Sanctuary, starting at 7 pm. All Troop 893 scouts, families, and friends are invited and encouraged to attend. Scouts will be receiving Merit Badges, Rank Cards, and other recognition’s that they have earned over the past 6 months. We will also recognize new members of Troop 893 and induct the new youth leadership for the next six month term.
  2. The reception will be followed with snacks and fellowship. For the reception, each family is asked to bring something to share as designated by last name, per below.  When you leave, please plan to take leftovers of what you brought.
        A – L:      Small dessert/snack 
 
        M – Z:      Beverage (one 2-liter bottle) 
 
3. Uniform Swap
Do your Scouts have uniform pants, belts, or Class B t-shirts they’ve outgrown? We are having a Boy Scout clothing swap at the next Court of Honor, March 31st. Between now and then, we will be accepting donations of clean, used articles of Scout clothing for the swap. Please send your items in a bag to any Tuesday meeting through 3/31. Nick Jobe will be collecting them.
 
After the Court of Honor,  families will have to the opportunity to choose Scout gear in available sizes. The swap is meant to help families by passing down used uniform pieces.
