Scoutmaster Minute:  Happy Father’s Day. For me this was a great day hanging out with my wife and boys watching some great World Cup soccer and doing a little preparation for summer camp next week. Many Father’s have helped shape Scouting over the years and I am eternally thankful for their collective willingness to serve the greater good as I have certainly gained much from this Journey. Mine began as a Bobcat many moons ago with my dad serving as Cubmaster and later Scoutmaster. I recently inherited a box of treasures that included some of his notes from those meeting long ago…perhaps like this news letter. My Journey was rebooted when my oldest son became a Tiger scout in 2009 and we participated in the 100 year anniversary parade in DC. One of many experiences that Scouting has provided to enrich my life for which I am thankful to my father and for the privilege of being one as well.

The Eagles Patrol will be leading patrols in a version of Jeopardy designed for Scouts. Your SPL is rumored to acting as Alex Trebek for several round that will challenge your knowledge of scouting history and lore. Prizes are rumored to be part of this event. Be Prepared is the name of the game! After several rounds a champion will be decided.
This will be the final meeting before we head off to summer camp, so the SPL will gather ASPLs and PLs to review the game plan for Sunday’s departure and expectations for how they will work as a team at Camp T. Brady Saunders.
2. Summer Camp Departure – June 24
Uniform – Class A (no exceptions)
All Scouts and Adults attending summer camp should be present and accounted for by 8:30am in the VDOT lot at CUMC.
Timely arrive make departure orderly and efficient for loading the bus with all gear and troop equipment, including gathering prescription medications.
  1. All will travel in Class A uniform….no exceptions. OA Scouts should remember to bring their sash to summer camp.
  2. Please be sure to pack a lunch and a few snacks for the bus ride, including a FULL water bottle. After we leave the next meal is not served until ~6:00PM, so plan accordingly.

3. Patrol Night – July 3
     Uniform – Class B
Patrols will be meeting on their own at any time this week. Each Patrol Leader should notify the SPL and me of their plan and report on how many member participate.
The purpose is for each patrol to plan an activity that will be fun and get the whole patrol together outside of a troop meeting or campout.
As a reminder, safe scouting guidelines and BSA principles must be followed!

Jacob Major is the current Troop Historian. He is always seeking pictures that could be added to the troop website and history log that documents all of our great activities, including Eagle projects, service projects, campouts, hikes etc. Please send pictures and a couple sentences about the activity to historian.troop893@troopmaster.email.
